Sophomore Year

"Wanted" Poster
Chemistry 10

Outcomes:
Chemistry 8: Apply the principle of conversation of mass to chemical reactions and equations
Chemistry 9: Apply the concept of mole to solve stoichiometric problems dealing with balanced equations

I learned a lot from doing this project. The whole process of the project was really fun, because we learned a lot about how forensic scientists gather their evidence to solve a crime. I liked this project because there were a lot of different parts to it that all relied on each other to figure out who did the crime. Making the poster itself was also a lot of fun. My strengths of this project was that I was really engaged, but some flaws were that I didn't have all of the parts finished at the right times so I couldn't start on the next parts.

Unit 3 Exam

Chemistry 10

Outcomes:
Chemistry 4: Explain the properties of materials in terms of the arrangement and the properties of the atoms that compose them

This was one of my first exams of this year in Chemistry, and I feel that I was really prepared and really understood the content of this unit. This unit was learning about atoms and their composition, and my strengths of this unit as a whole were that I was able to complete all of my homework and understand the classwork and projects because I reviewed the content often.

Human Trafficking Op-Ed
Humanities 10

Human Trafficking Op-Ed

Outcomes:
Reading 1.1: Select appropriate evidence to show understanding of a text in support of a claim
Research 2.1: Locate valid and credible sources from various places on a specific topic
Research 3.3: Cite sources and integrate into essays appropriately using MLA format
Self Direction: The ability to direct and guide oneself in both group work and independent practice
Writing 4A: Develop ideas and details in writing
Writing 4B: Organize ideas and details in writing
Writing 4C: Write in a style appropriate to the the audience

Writing this Op-Ed was probably the most choice in what I had to write about, rather than be forced to era a book to write a report on. I chose to write about human trafficking because I believe it is a really important issue revolving around the topic of human rights violations. My strengths of writing this Op-Ed was that I did a lot of research and I was very persuasive in my writing. My weaknesses were citing my sources, because I did so very broadly within the text so my citations didn't integrate into my writing.

Plaster Sculpture
Media 10

Outcomes:
Self Direction - the ability to direct and guide oneself in both group work and independent practice.
Visual Arts 1.1 - experimenting with and applying media, techniques and process to create art.
Visual Arts 1.3 - demonstrating craftsmanship through effort, neatness, care, and organization.
Visualization - the ability to interpret and create data representations for the purpose of expressing ideas, finding patterns and identifying trends.

The aim of this project was to create a non-object three-dimensional abstract sculpture. It was very messy, and took a lot of time to complete. I had to mold the plaster with water, carve certain shapes in the sculpture then sand the outsides to make soft. The base was made with the same plaster and water mixture and was shaped by using an orange juice container and then sanding the outsides once it was molded.

Wire Sculpture
Media 10

Self Direction - the ability to direct and guide oneself in both group work and independent practice.

Visual Arts 1.1 - experimenting with and applying media, techniques and process to create art.
Visual Arts 1.3 - demonstrating craftsmanship through effort, neatness, care, and organization.
Visual Arts 1.2 - creating artwork in which the meaning is related to media, techniques, and process used.

This wire project was a three-dimensional version of our continuous line blind-contor drawing of ourselves. This project was created using wire and different kinds of pliers to shape my face that was created from my blind-contour. This sculpture was pretty difficult because it was hard to make connections between different strands of wire and making the sculpture equal every line on the two-dimensional picture.
